Hi All
I decided to go back to the old(ish) home page layout. (kind of my version of trying to merge the old with the new)
I felt the new layout was kind of annoying in that I had to constantly scroll up & down to go between the features & forum & news.
Also your feature photos weren't getting the attention that they deserve.
And I missed my old design
Here's a link to what was the new version:
http://www.climbing.co.za/v2/
Let me know your thoughts.

Thank you for your effort in making sure the site remains relevant and AWESOME!

Personally, I think the new design was cool.
I hate this real world place... I'd be more than happy to live out there rather...

I've never liked gaudy scrolling photos (Oppa Joomla style!). Current live version of the site my fav.

I do prefer having the photo back in it's right place! But now the forum stuff is very squashed on my browser. Preferred the previous one except for the constantly scrolling featured items panel at the top... it kind of took over.

@joshpickering
Funny, I was just about to ask you for a screenshot
I realize that the v2 forum layout is much more readable - but then I have the whole variable image height with 2 column or 3 column dilemma.

I think I had the same problem that Josh mentioned. Had to refresh (ctrl F5) a couple times. Before it refreshed the pic of Joe was friggen huge and the rest was messed up a little. I like the new new layout

Not sure what is going on, but I get a HUGE photo and everything else on the site is 2/3 scrolls down.
I am using Chrome.
edit: nevermind, it is fixed.

I'm missing the Wiki update section. Will that be returning or am I just not looking in the right place????

@Forket
I had to google FTW.
1. Fuck the world.
2. For the win.
3. What the fuck backwards
4. Free the whales
Assuming 2. "An enthusiastic emphasis to the end of a comment, message, or post. Sometimes genuine, but often sarcastic"
now I'm confused. we're you being genuine or sarcastic?
Re: wiki section
I'm going to be putting the wiki section back in it's place. I'm just working on some improvements to the layout.
I'll hopefully be done in a week or 2.

What a relief... had actually been visiting the page substantially less with the new design and breathed a sigh of relief when I visited today. Maybe I just don't like change... Overall looks much better now. Thanks for all the effort.

:-) that's funny
I think I'm the same - don't like change... i was really missing the old layout!
OK. so executive decision made (current 3 column home page layout stays) - I'll be adding a few cool extra things here & there

Hmmm
I have a feeling you are not done...
I suppose you cannot cater for all browser types and devices. Current layout much better on iphone - the prev version did not work well on iphone. It did however had a more modern look and feel. Somehow current version feels old fashioned. Current version not well laid out on an ipad - empty spaces etc. Also, i cannot zoom on my mobile devices?
Me thinks your advertisors are not going to like current version.
Maybe you just have too much on the home page.
You may still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not. Cat Stevens

Unfortunately mine is still coming up the same as the screenshot...
It is definitely loading quicker than the previous version which is nice.
Just a thought... couldn't you make two slightly narrower side columns and move the featured column to the left and put the gallery photo and forum in the centre? The one nice thing about the previous layout was the forum had a bit more room and one could see which forum things had been posted in etc.

Hi Justin and Rikki
I kinda liked the new (now previous) version, anyway too bad.
One thing, I can no longer see the "Jump to last post" link on the forum quick links
Happy climbing

Ah, I'm an idiot, if you click on the post time, it takes you to the most recent post. Nice.

I'm going to leave the
http://www.climbing.co.za/v2/ version up (so basically have both versions running concurrently). If you really prefer the new version then just set your browser favorite to v2. But I'm going to keep the current version as the default homepage (for now). The load time is much faster and I think it gives a quicker better overview on the news & articles.
It's really difficult to make you all happy

but I'll try my best
