Are there any multi-pitch sport routes besides the ones at Cogmans Butress and Paarl around? Heard that there is something at Milner Ampitheatre but can't find any RD.

Hi Rastaman,

There are a few smaller 2 pitch routes around and they can easly be found in the Western Cape Rock book. A few examples

Forever friends (18), 2 pitch, The Vision Crag, Montagu.
Sunshine (15), 2 pitch, Sloth Crag, Montagu.

There are a few 2 pitch routes at Ramset, Montagu.

personally don't know of any bigger sport climbs except Cogmans and Paarl

Cogmans has some beautiful multi-pitchs :D

Good luck

Thanks. Have done the (easier) ones at Cogmans.
Agreed, they were awesome.
Agreed that we need more multi-pitch routes. We have so much potential for amazing long routes. Sigh, maybe trad is the way to go. 8)
Just so used to clipping a nice solid (?) bolt, it is going to take a bit of mental effort to trust a bit of metal wedged in a crack. This is the problem with bolts, you trust them too much. If anyone starts climbing I would suggest they get stuck into trad as early as possible.

 Get some trad gear, put it in, back it up (twice if necessary) and jump! This builds faith in trad gear.
You can even put gear in at a sport crag and have a bolt below as backup

Try the Rose Bowl, Cogman's Kloof: Heaven Can Wait 21, 24; Line of Duty 22, 21; and Rising Above Bedlam 21, 26.
Also potential for more - great crag.

I was lucky enough to climb at Paarl and at Cogman's on a December road trip-TAwesome stuff. There must be loads of potential down there for multi-pitch sports routes but access will probably be an issue, as is always the case.

There are a few in the E Cape:

Hogsback has at least 4
Momentum has one 3 pitch 21
Pinacle one 2x29
Mary 3

Thats 9 that I can recall. Posibly time for the W Cape fellows to pick up their game. as there are far fewer climbers in the E Cape.

Routes beyond the Hex

There's a sport route on Monk's Cowl, opened by Pete Janshek and co.
Also on on Sentinal by Alard and the boys. Both in the Drakensberg.
Then there are also quite a few multipitch sport routes at Swinburne and Everest in the Freestate.

- if you ever make it beyond the Hex....

Harrismith has a number (4 i think) of multipitch sport routes for
your enjoyment, also, Wellingtons dome in Potgietersrus might
tickle your fancy.
