Hi
I'll be visiting South Africa from January 1st till around February 15th. I was wondering what crags are a must for the avid climber?
I'm into bouldering as well as climbing. I climb around 30 and boulder around 8A.
Waterval Boven definitely seems like one of the top spots. What others are there?
Which areas are too hot in January to even consider?
Thanks for the input
Must see crags in South Africa?
You must go to Rocklands (Bouldering) and Boven routes. Oudtshoorn and Montagu are also well worth a visit (i.e. try to go there too!).
Don't worry about heat, it sucks sometimes, but won't stop you having a good trip. The sun stays up for a long time in the Cape at this time of year so you can do early morning and late afternoon missions for the best sending temperatures.

You have an opinion, so do I. When these differ, please don't confuse your opinion with the truth, nothing is absolute.
Heat will be be a factor - luckily at most established venues you will be dealing with dry heat. So you can deal with the situation by starting early (very early), then resting up at mid-day and then doing a late afternoon session. The only places that would be a problem due to the humidity would be the Durban/Pietermaritzburg crags.
