Gamkaberg - Little Karoo

Post by johannlanz » Sun Sep 02, 2018 2:07 pm

Although Gamkaberg was closed to rock climbing by Cape Nature, it has now been open for sometime and Cape Nature now supports and encourages rock climbing in the reserve. I realise that the wiki had never been updated with this info - but now has.

Gamkaberg is a very cool, very beautiful, user friendly, trad venue (mostly single pitch, but some multi-pitch) near Calitzdorp in the Little Karoo. Check it out some time.

The route guide (called Tierkloof) which contains all the necessary information can be downloaded free here.

Looks like a cool little spot. Are the closures due to nesting birds?

Please be careful of the loose rock on the jam crack at Stone Wall (it is about grade 16(?)). There is a loose rock on top with rap tat on it.

I think some rap chains would be really great for this venue.
