Bird nesting info Silvermine 2017
Apparently Silvermine main crag and Blaze of Glory are closed due to birds nesting.
Lower Silvermine crag remains open.
I was at Lower Crag today and saw lots of crow activity in the direction of BOG.

Surely they will only close the crags for Kestrels nesting? Starlings don't give a damn and I've never seen crows nesting there. Not that I care for crows - they're over-populated and decimate the smaller birds.

I stand to be corrected but Kestrel chicks are in-the-nest Nov/Dec? This seems very early......would be nice to get clarity on which crags are actually closed and for which birds. If the Kestrels are at their usual spot at Main Crag the routes that need closing are between No Mans Land and Mercury. The rest should be fine.
Re: Bird nesting info Silvermine 2017
Anyone know how long the crags will be closed for? And is it for Blaze, Main and Faulty, as sign is at parking lot?
Re: Bird nesting info Silvermine 2017
Hey all, we were climbing at lower crag yesterday and some mates of mine were attacked (they actually scratched him) by Starlings on Obideath (route 16 in the guide book) as they have nested about half way up directly inline with this route.
Best to avoid however the routes on either side are fine to climb, if you okay with the birds giving you the death stare.

jokes aside, respect the birds man. they don't come flying all over your child's cot now do they? more than enough rock to climb without having to disturb our feathered fiends

Main and Blaze remain closed. Probably until the end of January. Black eagle and kestrel nesting. Lower and Faulty are open. That's straight from TMNP Park Management meeting on Wednesday. I have asked them to tell me when they reopen.

All Silverware crags are open
Hello Robert,
I am writing to tell you that climbers are allowed back on the Steenbergridge cliff with immediate effect.
The two Rock Kestrel chicks have fledged.
Please thank the climbers for their patience.
Kind regards,
Lucia Rodrigues
