Hey Derek

Bushmans must be one of the most beautiful places i have ever been to,
Its on the beach, (Amazing Scenery). The rock is quite soft sandstone but although really good rock in places(Good Friction), mostly bouldering because if you go higher than 10m its a bit to soft and risky, but there is no need for bouldering mats, shoes, chalk bags etc (In a way very pure climbing experience)
I will upload a topo as soon as i have devoloped the are a bit more...
but if anyone wants to go and chillout on the beach and do bit climbing and then go for a swim in the surf, This is the place to go!

I remember going there a few years ago, and the rock near the beach was terrible - very soft and sharp. Is there better rock that we missed?

have climbed there off and on for the last 15 years. Yes, the rock is soft but if you choose your problems, a fine time can be had, especially on overhanging aretes and roofs - some excellent roof problems further west between the river and Dias Cross itself. the landings vary all the time, according to the season and the tide. Winter tends to be the best, obviously.

Answer to the question is YES...
I agree that there is some horrible crumply soft rock, but there is some seriously good rock in different areas...

Hey Keith I wonder if could let me know what routes you have climbed in the area and what you thought they were like-grade,name etc..
Send me a mail at garylowther@webmail.co.za
Your help devoloping the area will be greatly appreciated.
