Bronkies landslide
Bronkies landslide
Hi all,There has been a major landslide at Bronkies as a result of the prolonged and intense rain , the top 2/3rds of the central part (from the trees to the Yellow submarine) of the cliff slumped off, forming an 8 metre thick debris fan. The area is out of bounds until the debris has been determined to be stable ( I am helping with this). Its a really pity, there were some good routes there. Andrew

Re: Bronkies landslide
Glad no one was there- a land slide that writes off so many routes must have been huge!

Re: Bronkies landslide
Transpose that pic with the pic on the route wiki and you can see it is clearly the same pic.
every rock, bush, twig and even the building lines up perfectly.
so this is what climbers do when the rains don't stop

Re: Bronkies landslide
At least the eagles are still safe.

Re: Bronkies landslide
Chakan thanks for posting those two pictures. Gauteng climbers have had a rough 12 months: this and the Tuks boulder wall. When you consider the scale of both these disasters it is amazing no one was hurt. GP, Sorry for your loss. I suppose this does show us that while we might think of mountains and rock as stagnant and immortal, they do change. Don, Wasn't it you talking about a crag in Nelspruit that collapsed over night?
Its funny how pictures can put things into perspective: clearly the wall collapsed, and clearly there are no hangers to recover.
Makes you wonder how much longer The Granny's Souped up Wheelchair wall will last in Monteseel: when those routes were opened they could set up an anchor using the crack on top and a couple hexes. Today you can climb into that crack.

Re: Bronkies landslide
Aww what a shame its fake, would have been an improvement in the climbing community if people were forced away from bronkies:l
Nice troll work Andy, speedy recovery with that knee

Can we still kill the eagles?

Re: Bronkies landslide
Haha! Rad hoke you played with us Andrew. Especially geologist know that landslides don't really happen where the land is actually rock...
Good Photoshopping skills though
Indeed it's been raining for far too long

Hahaha very nice troll. Made me cry a bit inside, the thought of not being able to complete some of the routes
For a moment there everything I thought I knew about rocks were wrong.

Re: Bronkies landslide
We at EGG (Eagles Gotta Go) claim full responsibility for the recent bombing of Bronkies.
We felt a strong statement needed to be made with the philosophy that if we cant access part of the crag then no one will.
We further strongly suggest that all eagles and other living creatures great and small leave our sacred and traditional climbing grounds once and for all to prevent further reprisals along the western wall. Move out or we will scramble your eggs !!!
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil eagles. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon you."
