Getting from cape town to de pakhuys

Post by Mtamber » Tue Feb 11, 2014 10:09 pm

A friend and I are going to rocklands this summer, and we don't want to rent a car if possible. Therefore I'm wondering if anyone knows an easy way to get to the camping without a car? Maybe someone is driving up the same day? We're arriving in cape town the 30th of june. (Some other people we know are coming down a couple of days later and they will rent a car)

I've also heard rumours about a bus that goes from cape town to clanwilliam. Is this a good alternative?

Hi Marie,
June is a long way away for most local climbers to be planning Rocklands trips - but during season it won't be too difficult to get a ride to Rocklands from Cape Town. Becky from the Hen House (Alpha Excelsior farm) also runs a shuttle from CPT to Rocklands during season. There are buses and minibuses going to Clanwilliam but that stretch of road is pretty dangerous and I've seen some scary driving by minibus drivers. Plus you'd still need to get to de Pakhuys from Clanwilliam. Best to go up with some other boulderers I reckon.
