Do they sell sterling ropes or what?

Hey guys...just a feeler.
Has anyone ever had a Sterling rope and would you buy them were they available in RSA?
It seems their handling/etc is superb, as is their range of product.

Why is is they're not brought in? Is it because they don't do additional gear and just ropes?

So yeah. wouldn't mind some input from the community :)

Great feeling ropes, mates in the US love them and compare them favourably to other good rope brands such as Mammut.
Only climbed with them a couple of times, I don't own one.

I'd buy them if they were available in SA

Nice ropes, Dave Davies sold me one many years ago.

My guess is that they are not imported to SA for the same reason that Mountain Mail Order stopped importing Blue Water - the import duties/taxes were too high (when compared to Europe).

Yeah, everything I've heard about them is seemingly positive.
I may have found someone in RSA who brings them in...

They say they would be willing to bring in more if there was a market for it.

So I'll keep all posted.

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone (or rather Tristan) know what has happened to Edelrid ropes? I recently retired an Eagle 9.8 after 2 years (not retired entirely, still climb on it on shorter routes with lightweights like Mike Bher) and was disappointed to discover that they are no longer imported. Had to settle for a 9.7 Beal Booster instead and, after only a couple of weeks, could see there is no way it will last as long.

If I'm not mistaken,...Tristan has a stake in http://www.southernrockgym.co.za/
and they still do limited Edelrid stuff...
P.S. I loooove my Edelrid Hawk 9.4, but it's getting worn now :P

LOVE Sterling ropes. Best ropes I have ever owned, hands down. Supple, durable... even better than Mammut IMHO.

I love Edelrid products, but stock is always an issue.
My new favourite rope: Mammut :thumright

After 12 years in this business, I have learnt that everyone's favourite rope tends to be the last one they bought :)

We used to import BlueWater ropes. But like Justin says, the USA brands are at a huge cost advantage (duty and shipping) vs. the European brands.

So if you can't beat them, join them: we stopped bringing in the best of the USA (BlueWater) and now import Mammut.
We also sell Beal and Roca in our shop, they are also European-made and backed by solid importers.

To us, Mammut is a good product at a decent price point. And what really matters to us as retailer, we get stock when we need it, after-sales service and support.

And Chris McNamara from Supertopo likes Mammut too, even though he is American:
