Advice please!!!

Postby delightfullysaucy » Tue Mar 21, 2006 3:14 pm

Hi guys,
I'm an 18 year old female climber living in England, this summer I want to come to South Africa on a bouldering holiday for about a month. Sadly i have to come alone as none of my friends that I climb with can either afford it, or get the time of work :( I was just hoping you could give me some advice, so far I think I'm going to come to Rocklands as it looks awesome. How safe will it be for me, also is there a campsite within walking distance of the bouldering area as I dont drive. Thanks!!! xox

Don't worry the Stellies Crew has a soft heart and we'll keep you safe ;-)
Yes there is bouldering near the campground but no the main area is 10min drive up a pass and it's a bitch to walk! Trust me! But don't worry us savages in Africa drive quite well and will be more than willing to give a helpless lady a hand, and a spot ;-)

Are you coming over UK summer or SA summer? You really do need a car to get around, but most of the natives are friendly and like the man said, hooking up with unviersity types should get you lifts and climbing parteners/spotters. I'm going over in oct/nov from london to show the gf the motherland, if that's any help to you.

I have heard from a reliable source....
Two fingers deep is far more effective than
Three fingers shallow
when moving off small finger pockets
:D

Just let us know when you get here and we can discuss the finer points of technique in greater depth.

Chilling in Princeton, hit Cradle Rock today! Sweet basalt, great friction!!
I'll be back in around the middle of May and straight up to the Lands! Are the plans in motion for our accomodation at Rocklands?

Ja i will speak to the new guy in charge....
The BTK still owes Unio R5000 from last year

By the way i was wondering..... with a name like 'delightfullysaucy' we might be taught a lesson or two,
when it comes to technique

BTK

Postby scottnoy » Sat Mar 25, 2006 8:59 pm

Seriously! What's the hold up with the cash? I thought it was all settled?
The climbing and hiking budget should be seprated within BTK! They don't do shit for us climbers and we supply most of the money!
Spending tens of thousands of Rands on a stupid hut in the mountain that no-one uses, instead of for here and now! Climbing trips ect!
I've been a member for 5 years and I think the grips on the wall have been changed twice only because a few guys get together and do it. All the gear has disappeared or is in disrepair and they don't even sponsor bolts anymore?
I think it's partly our fault, the climbers don't have a strong leader voicing our grievances and maybe it's time someone puts a fire under their asses!
