de doorns
I was at De Doorns last weekend(lost fingers crag) and was disgusted at what is happening there. The squattter camp is growing rapidly and is now being moved accross the N1(crag side) and it seems will grow right up to the access area of the crag. The crag has also been brutaly vandalised and doesn`t have a very safe feel to it. It would be best to avoid Lost Fingers and rather climb at Rooi Nagmerie.
Hi jeanpant (cool nick! englikaans). I don't know De Doorns at all. Or the condition of the squater camp for that matter, but it sounds like a pretty cool community building setup : a squater camp next to a crag!! Get the youth cranking, walking distance from their home, instead of doing drugs and getting in gangs out of boredom. Maybe I'm a bit naive about the whole thing. Sounds cool though.
God bless

Unfortunately (and this has been discussed before re boven) one or two sqatters might want to climb, but the rest of the squatters will use it as an opportunity to survive (which means threatening and stealing from the haves)
The problem is largely solved by education and reduction of the number of people below the bread line and temporarily solved with walls, segregation and policing.
Arno, it would be great but realistically, I think its just another problem

yeah, strange enough we where mobbed by a big bunch of kids from the nearby camp who where VERY keen to climb. They where just a bit much though and had a whole pack of dogs with them which they where using to hunt dassies and klipbokke. You can imagine the disturbance they were causing. I gave them two old quickdraws though and this realy got them going!
Re: de doorns
Bringing up a really old thread here, We are going away for the weekend, somewhere along the R318, between De Doorns and Montagu. Does anyone know if there is any bouldering to be done out that side?
Re: de doorns
As per PM, there's tons of bouldering.
I've done some googling, and my rusty brain tells me the farm you access from is called Wolwehok, but this might be waay out of date, I was last there in 2002.

Would you be aware of a topo somewhere I can get my hands on? If its in a guide book I have no issues purchasing the guide bookJustin wrote:Tons of it - not quite Rocklands quality, but its goodOveride wrote:Does anyone know if there is any bouldering to be done out that side?
Re: de doorns
The only guides I ever saw were printed directions for the problems marked up for the competitions, and they were pretty useless. I just followed my nose and climbed what looked good.
