Durban area single pitch trad or sport partner wanted
Durban area single pitch trad or sport partner wanted
Hi
I'm in SA for a few weeks on holiday and looking to get some climbing done in the Durban area. I'm from Scotland so i'm not used to the SA grading system but I think I can climb about grade 16 trad and 20 sport.
Looking for a partner some time from the start of next week to the start of December.
I have basic gear with me (harness, belay plate, helmet, rock shoes, a couple of screwgates and a prussik) so need to find a partner that has their own rope(s) and climbing rack.
Thanks,
Steven

Here is a SA guide to grade comparisons Sport Climbing Route Grade Converstion Table
You might want to check out Monteseel I haven't been there (yet) but heard the climbing is great.
And here is the guidebook to Natal: A Climber’s Guide to Kwazulu-Natal Rock – South Africa

Prepare to sweat your bollocks off.

Yes yes yes for Monteseel!! Better rock quality than TM or Magaliesberg. Great routes too!
And yes, take a truckload of chalk.

Hi,
I will be back in Natal in a week or so. I will have some time on my hands during the week if you are keen. You can PM me if you want to climb and then we can make arrangements
Lekker

Hi all.
Thanks for the replies. Not been online for a few days. I'm now in the northern drakensberg and looking for a partner to do the Angus Leppan route with on The Sentinel (posted a new thread about this).
Regarding the gear I have with me, just basic gear because ropes and a full trad rack wouldnt fit in my bag for the flight over here. I have a harness, belay plate, rock shoes, helmet, screwgates and a prussik.
Thanks,
Steven

Hi,
See if you can get hold of the Amphitheatre Backpackers. I do not have contact details, I know of a chap that works or worked there that guides climbing trips. Worth a shot. If not still go to the Backpackers if you up for a party, awesome place that. If you can postpone the climb till next week I am up for it . . .

I'm at the Ampitheatre backpackers just now. No climbing guides at all!
Cant climb next week i'm afraid. I'm flying home from Cape Town on the 3rd of Dec.
