Best (most awful) pop culture climbing movies

Postby Nic Le Maitre » Fri Sep 02, 2011 5:46 pm

So while I'm stuck on this little island with no rock to climb, I've been watching lots if climbing movies unfortunately not all of them are up to the high standards of The Sharp End or King Lines. The worst are the "climbing movies" made for a non climbing audience like Vertical Limit and The Eiger Sanction. The worst of the worst has got to be K2 - The Ultimate High. They get everything wrong, jumaring downhill, one moment they are climbing a Yosemite big wall and the next they are on an alpine route in snow etc etc.

Anyone got a better nomination for the worst climbing movie ever made?
Happy climbing

Cliff Hanger.... It makes me sick of only thinking of it! :puker:
Why on earth will someone want to solo with a set of nuts and a piton hammer?? But I suppose, Rambo has to have some heavy metal on him.

Ok, I forgot about Cliffhanger (must have a psychological block). Vertical Limit is a close contender too, the beginning where there are four people climbing on a single rope. Also that scene where the hero jumps across a huge gap and falls about 20m before calmly hooking his axes into the rock/ice and stopping.

The start of Mission Impossible 2 is pretty ridiculous too.

Whaddayamean Cliffhanger!?

I grew up on that!

It rediculous enough to go all the way around to being back in the 'cool' category :-)

Cliffhanger "....is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth."

I believe my eyes are watering over with emotion....

Oh, that was from the Sunscreens song.
