B&B Path Building
Hi All,
The Bold and the Beautiful Crag is in need of a path/base build - There is a path already, but it needs to be reinforced and the base needs work.
The routes at the crag are really good (the routes have had a fair bit traffic).
I cut Gum poles this morning and have stored them at DeBos (far right against the fence). I would like to do a path build (one morning) before the New Year... Does anyone have any date suggestions?
The more people who come and help out the easier the job will be!
Poles are cut (see pic below) and need to be carried up. I can supply tools.
p.s. it was raining in Montagu today, now clearing.

Re: B&B Path Building
Is there anyone from Stellies who is also keen to help? Let's make a Montagu trip for a couple of days!
I am fairly flexible from after the 17th, so let me know when it will suit you. (I just need to be able to get a dog-and-cat-sitter)
Thanks for doing this, Justin!

Re: B&B Path Building
Hi Brenda,
Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned said that the 17th & 18th December won't do because of the Rock & Road happening that weekend in Oudtshoorn.
Which takes us to Xmas and into the new year!
Does anyone have a preference of dates in the New Year?
Tx,
Justin

Hi Justin.
Yea, thanks VERY much for heading this up!
We can certainly try help out mid Jan. We're in CT with 2 little kids, dog, cat, birds, rabbit (yes a frickin farm!) so we'd need to prep a bit. But mid Jan would more than likely be do-able?

Re: B&B Path Building
Path / Base Build of the Bold & Beautiful Crag in Montagu will take place on Saturday the 2nd of April.
I will be (with the help of labourers): cutting & treating gum poles, carrying poles to the base of the crag (this will be done ahead of time).
So essentially all the 'dirty work' will be done before hand. This will allow us to concentrate on putting the poles in place (along the path and the base).
Everyone is welcome, anyone who can't make it is welcome to contribute cash (to be spent on labour and materials).
If you have any questions, post them here or mail me on justin@climbing.co.za
Please let me know if you can make it.
Tx, Justin

Re: B&B Path Building
Thanks to those who have made donations so far
Just to get an idea of numbers, how many people will be able to make it?
Saturday plan:
As mentioned, all the materials will be on site ready for us to install.
I would like to Start working at 08:30 and finish off at around 13:00 - followed by climbing and cold beers.

Re: B&B Path Building
"Well it's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it"
Path building for Bold and the Beautiful began yesterday.
Many thanks to the donations that we received (both of you
The MCSA donated R1000 to the B&B crag as well.
A big thanks to Jason Temple-Forbes of Eco Tree Co for loaning me his chainsaw for this job.
FYI: 1.8 meter long x 100mm thickness Pine poles cost R60 each, so saved a lot by doing this ourselves.
- We went and cut gum poles down (courtesy of the Montagu Mountain Reserve who own the land that B&B is on).
- The poles were then de-barked and painted with Creosote (nasty stuff !)
- The poles where then carried up to the base of the crag.
- We also created a bridge + cleared the general walk-in path and removed the dangerous Doring branches that were hanging over the path.
- More poles are being cut and carried up today + more path improvement.
Path build Day this Saturday the 2nd:
Meet under the Palm tree next to the bridge - all the materials will be on site ready for us to install.
I would like to Start working at 08:30 and finish off at around 13:00 - followed by climbing and cold beers.
The weather is going to be perfect (21 degree's with cloud cover)
The more the merrier and easier the work will be, look forward to seeing you there!!
And don't forget that The Montagu Rock Rally takes place on the 16th of April - Registration forms will be posted on this site at the end of the week!!

The walk-in path is now sufficiently cleared and we have poles at the base of the crag and along the path up.

Re: B&B Path Building
De Bos have sweetened up the weekend for everyone attending the path build:
All path builders can camp for free on the 'path building' weekend and get a voucher for another nights free camping.
De Bos would also like to double the private donations as our donation, and will pay for the first case of beer and keep it cold.
