Alternative Sports
I am keen to hear from the community what type of activities they are involved in other than climbing, are us climbers really into extreme sports of any kind or are there a lot of us that are totally mellow and just climb.

Re: Alternative Sports
When not climbing I take part in extreme drinking, if that is a sport
Re: Alternative Sports
Well
Dirt jumping.
Luge once in a blue moon.
or anything that looks like it could be good fun where you now stuffs can go wrong.
But i am gonna take a chill pill after this one (the broken foot).

Re: Alternative Sports
We used to build our own luges and bomb hills when I was at school, long but not that long ago about a decade ago. we had seen some films on VHS parkour, luge, base jumping epic times! built our own crappy luges even got a more modern design out of mild steel square tubing, how we didn't kill ourselves I have no idea. we were at the same level in the late 90's as some guys were in the early 80's. got so roasted remember mates with his whole back roasted! lol that was coz we got wobbles from using cheapo standard skate trucks... good old daysfridge wrote:Well

Hi there All.
We go luging about twice times a month. If anyone is intrested you are welcome to pm me and we can see what we can do. On some of the hills we get up to +100km/h so hemuts and leathers help alot. We have a extra luge, and standup Dh boards.

I'm getting more and more into standup DH, busy carving up the hills with my flexy bamboo carver, but just got an MX helmet and a set of Sabre trucks (whose homebrand bushing are wicked! given my soft deck a lot more stability)Papabear wrote: We have a extra luge, and standup Dh boards.

What Hector said.
Seriously we should play a game sometime if you want to take my skins.
I wonder if the climbing community would know what I was just talking about... could get gross, hehehe

Walk my dogs twice a day
I used to play squash (anyone out there looking for a partner?)
MTB occasionally
Nowadays I also either do sport climbing, trad or bouldering.

Re: Alternative Sports
Long distance swimming twice a week is what does it for me - awesome for fitness and meditation for the mind. You should all try it out

Sailing.
Its interesting that many famous climbers also enjoyed sailing.
Same kind of mental fitness and of course there are ropes and knots to play with.
I'll play golf when I'm 60+

Re: Alternative Sports
I love golf! I played pretty damn well at school too, I even live looking out on a nature reserve, golf course and butt ugly shopping center between them (two butt ugly shopping centers actually; 50m apart)
But how anyone can afford to play enough to become good I dont know. Couple O' clips for green fee, skins, drinks afterward, gear, attire, traveling (to get to the nice courses) and the list just goes on and on. Rich mans sport, I'll stick to the stuff that's free; waves, asphalt (well got no money back from the taxman this year so I reckon he's charging for it now), rock and nature reserves.
