Our sincere condolences to Patricia, Luke, Hilton and John! Dave was a wonderful person and probably the most friendly shop owner that I knew. I first bought from his shop when he was living below Skoorsteenkop in Hout Bay. He had a little room behind the house stocked from floor to ceiling with gear and business was evidently booming. He certainly had a nack for the retail industry... A big ceder has fallen and he will be surely missed.

When we were students we would pool our pennies for petrol, pile into a car and make the journey over the mountain to MMO just to go look at all the cool stuff. We almost never actually bought anything, mainly because none of us ever had money , but Dave let us try on everything in the shop and offered advice on anything we wanted to know. I have not met another shop owner who would go fetch shoebox after shoebox and then offer you some tea because he was just about to go make himself some.

You were a great person and will be sorely missed Dave. Rest in peace.

We have had many fond memories with Dave and he will be missed by us. He was a catalyst for some of my best climbs and without him I wouldn't have done Triple Indirect, The Dream, Celestial Journey, Black Ice, Big Groove, Oscillation. Pity we couldn't do more. We're gonna miss you dude........

I have no words. I will always remember the chats and coffee around the little stove in your Houtbay shop. David, you will be missed.

My sincere condolences to Trish, Luke and the rest of the family.

David, although I did not know you well, you were always an inspiration to me;
how to climb well and how to live at peace with the world. When we last saw you in
March I hoped that by some miracle things would turn out better in the end.
Unfortunately, life is cruel to the best. Climb on.

Heartfelt condolences to your family.

I've climbed celestial and a few other great routes of Dave's but my best memories are talking at MMO or on the mountain and the way he made me feel....Rest in Peace Dave.. the man with a beautiful soul..

I never had the chance & honour to climb with Dave but his friendly smile & keen spirit always stood out. Apart from his vision & talent on the hills, he also managed to take the online & retail outdoor markets to new levels in South Africa.

I stumbled upon this - http://users.iafrica.com/m/mm/mmo/sport ... mbing.html and simply had to smile!
