steenbrass dam, gordonsbay ???

Postby justfly » Fri Sep 03, 2010 9:05 pm

Hi there fellow rock junkies :thumleft:
are there any areas to climb at the steen brass dam above Gordonsbay ?
I have had a look at the Western side of the mountain , but the rock is definatly suspect :(
I can get accesse to the dam and would luv to find somewhere close to home to climb

(new to CT)

Me and a few other locals here in GB have also been looking for somewhere close to climb. The area at the top of the road leading up to the dam sucks! Havn't checked inside the gates but I know the authorities aren't keen on climbers or at least weren't. (Hense the closure of surfside (which was kak anyway)). But if you stop at the switchback (sharp turn in the road) on the way up, and then walk around the corner you will come to a fantastic amphitheater/ buttress with great potential. I have heard rumers that there has been some trad climbing done there. Anyone?? It has great potential for a number of routes from hard to easy. Just be carefull, stay under the radar, I'm sure the authorities are difficult. Go check it out!

Howdy, koel bay is fun! There is a leka boulder problem at the bottom of the road that goes up to the dam. Park at the parking bay directly opposite the start of the road. Look up from there and only 25 odd meters up and to the right is a boulder with a nice problem.
