Gaiters
Going to do a bit of an epic +-200km beach trek this holiday and trying to find some gaiters that don't cost an arm and a leg.
These are made for running shoes, anyone got experience with them? will they fit over my hiking boots?

or anyone wanting to sell their old ones?

Re: Gaiters
I got some 360 degree ones last year for an ice climbing trip, that weren't to expensive ~R200 and the fit boots an work very well. Actually picked them up in a Sportsmans Warehouse.

Re: Gaiters
how well did it seal at the top?

Re: Gaiters
My mountain gaiters seal well at the top. I think it really depends on how tightly you want to pull that drawstring. I'm guessing you will always get some sand getting through on a beach trek.
Also - I've sent you a PM - selling my (not so) old gaiters.

I don't think, therefore I'm Not

Gaiters? At the beach! Do you have fat ankles or what?

Sand, sand and more sand for 7 days. number must wear hot hiking boot to support ankles and must have gaiters to keep sand out.

Re: Gaiters
I just have to ask, where are you going? 7 days, 200km, sand sand and more sand?

Re: Gaiters
No where special
just ambling on the beach from the tip of the Durban Bluff to Port Edward on the South Coast, could probably walk it in 5 days or run it in 3-4 but want to have the time to look around catch some fish (ultra lighting so not taking much food). as long as the whole trip cost stays under R200 I'm happy, I have the time but no money

Re: Gaiters
Decided to make my own, just need something to keep the sand out that I can wear all day without overheating too much. Going to make a pair from the same material my polyrunning shorts are made of breathes and dries real quick.
Anyone know where I could by this material in Durban?

Re: Gaiters
Hey hey,
I have a pair of those gaiters. For sand they work brilliantly and they have quite a tight seal at the top and allow minimal sand through. I used them on Kilimanjaro during the dry season and they worked great.
I would recommend them for beach trekking and they work fine with boots too.
Enjoy!
