Montagu Rock Rally 2010
Greetings climbing friends........
A couple of us psyched, young climbers will be organising this years Montagu Rock Rally. It will be a 1 day event on Sat 17 April which will hopefully preclude rain, but provide cool climbing conditions. It will be held separately to the Mountain Mania M3 so we will have De Bos to ourselves and won't have to squabble over food with the cyclists & runners.
All the De Bos roofed accommodation has been blocked booked for the Rock Rally so if you are quick you may be able to get an available chalet or room. Camping will be available without booking.
The objective is not to crown the SA champion, but rather to have a great climbing festival at this great venue that all the climbers can enjoy. Expect great prizes and some interesting prize categories that will ensure everyone has a good time.
We will keep you updated with any new info.

Out of curiosity - I know it's dificult picking a date that suites everyone - but why was that specific weekend chosen - I see there are a long weekends 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after (if you take of the 26th) the 17th (or do I have my public holidays mixed up?)

Re: Montagu Rock Rally 2010
I have no idea about this particular case, but most likely the organisers have something more fun and less stressful organised for the long weekends. Something which they are not prepared to miss out on, just to organise fun for others
Man, I'm out of breath now.

Yes we thought you lot would dissappear to the Cederberg, Boven, Oudtshoorn etc over the long weekends. However, I personally recommend bunking whatever you do in the week and make it a long one

Warren - we have booked out De Bos and plan to have the spit braai, prizegiving and "social" in the quad. And yes I agree, the party is equally as important as the climbing.

Re: Montagu Rock Rally 2010
Greetings:
Do you think the new "rules" at Montagu with access denial will affect the Rock Rally...ie I see on this website an article, stating that all route beyond Lego Land are off limits ?!?
We are a group of 4 (beginners) and plan to come through for the Rally...
Some questions to the organizers, if you do not mind:
1. Will the other events (run / cycle) take place at the same time, or will this be another weekend.
2. What is the entrance fee?
3. Is there an updated website (all website references go back 2009, 2007) with info?
4. Is there an entry form / booking form that we must complete before hand, or will all entrants be done on the day?
5. Contact number for organizer ?
LOOKING FORWARD TO IT !!!

Re: Montagu Rock Rally 2010
Hi Jaques - good to see such enthusiasm. All the info will be posted soon on ClimbZA and there will be an online registration form. As I said in my 1st post, the rock rally is a seperate event to M3 so you can leave your bike and running shoes at home. Pity about the Boschkloof access, but I'm sure there's enough climbing to get everyone pumped stukkend - plus you need to save some energy for the spit braai afterwards.

Howzit Andy! Looking forward to the Rally. Thank you in advance for all of the time that you and the team have already put into the event.
Point of clarification ... what is an "out of towner"? Someone who doesn't live in Montagu? What about people who have recently relocated to the destinguished province of the Western Cape? Are they now classified as honoury guests and therefore automatically qualify for addtional points over and above the "out of towner" catagory?

Re: Montagu Rock Rally 2010
Is there a category for one armed climbing? Cos ive attended the last 3 rallies, and unfortunatly ive got a broken wrist at the moment. But i'll be there anyway, so what about a few extra point hey...hey

Re: Montagu Rock Rally 2010
The online registration form does not allow for changes to the amount.

My girlfriend is coming along, but not participating.
She would however like to have a bite from the spitbraai.
Nou hoe nou?

The form now also allows for you to register for the spitbraai only - so bring your friends to the party!
Re: Montagu Rock Rally 2010
Just wondering if Legoland is still going to be open and accessible for the Rock Rally?

Legoland will be part of the 2010 Montagu Rock Rally. This crag falls outside the farm which is no longer accessible. We are also hoping to get access to Bosch kloof.

Newbie
Hey guys.
I'm a new climber, but not a bad climber and I just got to Cape Town about 3 weeks ago. This rally sounds too awesome to not see if I couldn't possibly be apart of it.
I'm no pro and probably not even near it. And honestly, the only climbing I've done has been indoor.
Is this just a bad idea for me or is it possible I could come along and get a chance to learn something?

Re: Montagu Rock Rally 2010
hey sarawood4, yes if you are new then you have to come, you will meet so many awesome people and you will have fun, the emphasis is on having fun.
See you there!!

See you there!!
Re: Montagu Rock Rally 2010
Hey Sara,
I totally agree with Catherine! It would be a bad idea not to go
There is no better place to learn about climbing than on the rock surrounded by like-minded people. And its going to be loads of fun!

Re: Montagu Rock Rally 2010
I'm going to watch the Rock Rally but the venues will be Badkloof, Scoop, Cauldron, Legoland & Farside.
Can you give me a schedule for the rock rally, please? Can I join the party if I am not taking participating / not having splitbraai (vegetarian)?
Is it Sport Climbing Competition? Will it have top rope?
Thanks
