Hey folks

This is very much an experiment, but please go and check it out if you have the time and inclination:

http://amber.ee.sun.ac.za/~carl/index.php/Main_Page

The idea is that its a community produced guide to climbing in SA. Everyone chips in a little bit of knowlege and effort and in the end you have all the information on everyone's brains all recorded in one place.

Anyone can add new info or edit the thing, but this kind of idea has worked very well in the past in many different fields, so maybe we can all get together and produce something really comprehensive.

viva the hive mind!

Hi Carl,

Thinking about continuity. Have you considered a free domain name e.g. http://www.za.net/ ? Presumably the Wiki won't remain hosted where it is forever.

Looks cool. Maybe I can convince some people to contribute to the missing information on KZN?

Cheers,
Scott

Yes, been thinking about domain names but that costs money and time and i want to check out if it makes sense first. That hosting will be available for a long time and i would hope that climb.za will put up a link as well, which wil also give some continuity.

Thanks to the guys who have contributed already, you give me a warm and fuzzy feeling!

Hi Carl

Site looks great, but have u had a chance to have a look at the websites below. They seem to be doing a similar thing but on a worldwide scale.

http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/list ... StateID=34

8a.nu also has something similar.

Cheers

The miniguides published by http://www.rockfax.com have lots of good ideas. I've found them very easy to use. Maybe some of those features could be adopted.
