Cleaning Wall Grips ... Can it be done?

Postby Dan » Fri Sep 02, 2005 3:10 pm

Hey there!

I am a member of a EXTREMELY busy climbing wall. It's great cos you get allota tips, but the grips are getting really filthy.

I am trying to contact the person in charge, but I'm having a hard time finding him. So I figured I might just as well clean the grips myself.

I was wondering if anyone can give me tips on cleaning wall grips and if it can be done using some quick solution, because there's allota grips and the dirt is packed heavily.

Take them off and soak them. Then give them a good scrub - wire brushing etc.

Depending on the make of your grips, you can put them in the dishwasher :)

At the gym where I climb you battle to see the colour of the grips sometimes, what about a high pressure cleaner, has anybody tried this before, saves you the hassle of taking them down and imagine how much fun it would be

Damn right that sounds like great fun. but on someone elses wall. unless you've sealed it , the wood is gonna swell like my beer boop and then the fun is gonna be watching people blowing off with nice clean holds still in their paws. enjoy!!!! and post some photies for the rest of us.

High pessure cleaners are the best way to go , but the
grips must come off the wall .

City Rock has been using one for a while and its a winner

Silicone gel pulls it all of real easy without damaging the grips.
Fred is a nob!

Silicone Gel?

Where do you get Silicone gel?

From a hardware store. You just paint it on, let it dry and then peal it off.
We found it out in an abortive attempt to create moulds out of our current holds. Didn't work too well but the holds in question came clean.

I have just cleaned my grips from my wall in my dish washer. I even added some dish washing powered. All the grips came our looking brand new.
