Badkloof up date

Postby stuboy » Fri Nov 21, 2008 7:46 am

Hi all.
For those who plan to come out to Montagu this weekend, here is some news on Badkloof. I took a walk, (wade) through the kloof yesterday. The sand is clean and the wade is pleasant, it is not all wading the higher areas are dry. The river came up to the base of Thruster !!!! The Swamp is dry !!! the base of Worlds Apart is dry!!! and the first bolt on Rolling Stones is at chest hight, I can clip the second bolt if I stand on tip toes, there is a nice concrete slab at the base. One can walk from The Swamp all the way along to Uriah Heep, there are no reeds so crossing the river is easy and clean. Waterworld is now Underwaterworld, but I have a big plan there and the best crag in South Africa will be operational soon!!!!
There we go, have a great weekend where ever you go.
The drift to De Bos is manageable with a bakkie otherwise take the detour via Barry Street.

Stuart.

Thanks Stuart, cant help but wonder what you're planning for Waterworld, a floating jetty? Would be neat complete with platforms for landing on when lowered off. Is the Lion Said area accessible? Maybe some bridges should be built across the river here and there?

Lion Said is accessible. Bridges aren't going to be any good here.

If you plan on going to Bad Kloof, be sure to wear something on your feet as there is a lot debris around (that could be underwater).
Otherwise it was very pleasant being there :)

When last did anyone climb at the Playground!?

Went to the Playground for the first time in years! It is actually so great to be able to climb at these crags again and I will advise everyone to go there before the reeds grow back!!
Some of the bolts had spiderwebs on them because it's been a while since anyone has climbed there!

The walk in to Badkloof is a bit longer if you decide to walk in from Lover's lane and avoid the first big river!

Be sure to wear shoes that can get wet... Crocs are very good for this type of walk-in! :afro:
