You can see this bit of rock from the N1, just outside Beaufort-Wes. The rock in the area looks like the orangey hard sandstone of the Groot Winterhoek. Does anyone know anything about this? The closest place with an address is the Lemoenfontein Guest house...

Definately not sandstone of Cape quality. I know the area and the cliff in question. It is a large dolerite sill intruding sediments of the Karoo Supergroup. It is the same rock type and age as the sills that form Hogsback and others in the E Cape but in the Karoo the dolerites tend to be finer grained and chossier. You will find some solid faces/aretes but overall not worth it unless you're looking for a real adventure!

Still, it's pretty exciting when you drive past. I believe that there are a few established routes in those hills.

Perhaps someone who's been there can confirm Pedley's speculation... or not.
You have an opinion, so do I. When these differ, please don't confuse your opinion with the truth, nothing is absolute.
