Where to climb in South Africa?

Postby kine » Fri Oct 05, 2007 11:33 am

I'm going to South Africa from mid February to mid March for a project and some climbing, and I'm wondering about where to go. My level is around 17-22, and I'd like to do some outdoors sports climbing. Does anyone have some hot tips about the best places to climb at my grade? Also planing to try some scuba diving and surfing, so a wize word on that would be great as well :)

I will give you two wise words......

Cape Town! (plus a free exclamation mark) ...... you will be able to climb, surf, and dive ....all in one day.

Another 2 words: Waterval Boven. We don't have to use excuses like diving and surfing to lure anybody to this world class climbing venue...

I might not know the best climbing spots but if you want to dive check out www.allaboutscuba.co.za
You can also contact Emil at mielie@allaboutscuba.co.za
These guys run trips through out the year.

I stay about 10km for Fernkloof so if you would like to check out what the guys & gals were up against on the Rock & Road trip give me a shout. Don't know all the sites but I can give you general info! :?:

Thanks for all the answers and wise words. To answer your question Marshall, I'm not quite sure yet. It depends a bit on our project manager, but I also thougth of trying to place it nearby good locations for our activities. But if I'd say today, a hot shot would be that we're going to Johannesburg.

But we're anyway just having one-two weeks of research and the rest of the time we'll be driving around, going wherever we want to go, so any recommended place is noted =)

Nice job.... is your company hiring???

If you're up in Jo'burg, there's plenty at your disposal within an hour's drive.

Trad, sport, bouldring, a bit of all?
