this is kinda stupid but it has been buggin me for some time


i have a biner and i am not shure if the scratch is a crack or a scratch how the hell do i tell the defference

The best way to tell if it's a crack is to climb about 5 meters above it and take a whipper. If it doesnt break, then you'll know it's just a scratch!

Seriously though, if in doubt at all, rather destroy the gear. Take a hacksaw and cut it in half so it cannot be used again. No point in taking chances...and, if you drop any gear and it falls hard onto rocks, do the same.

Engineering shops sometimes send their products for X - ray to look for internal cracks etc (which would be way more expensive than buying a new biner)

Alternatively if you tap it with a spoon and the vibration it generates isnt G minor then it needs to be replaced :)

Basically - as a guest said - if in doubt buy a new one

i should probably retire the thing but it is such a pretty biner
