It was an amazing experience. It took 4 hours to rig the set up, Gustav, Brendan, Warren and Max were awesome help. Alex B was crucial! He was so kind to help out and the shoot couldn't have happened without him and the 30kg bag of rocks hanging off his harness as a counterweight. He was in the harness for 3 hours. Thanks ALEX! :thumleft:

So where is Hidden Kloof then? Is it near Hartebeespoort (Heartypeasoup) Dam?

Looks cool.

The "close, but miles out" was a Simpsons reference. Sorry, bit obscure.

Hector/Ian is this the same route you guys climbed when you snapped those Hourglass pics of us the other day? Jolly good picture either way.

The rock looks awesome - similar quality to Cederberg!?

Except without the friction!

Lol, yes, like Chris says, especially lower down. The grips are also much smaller and the climbing tends to be less steep. More variation, lower, much more water. Apart from that the similarities are quite striking. I'd say in quality they are roughly equal. What am I doing? Dude, just take a 3 month sabbatical and come see it for yourself!

Taken under (serious) consideration (I will start negotiations with wife ;). When is the best time to visit?

Summer is best: Climb, Swim, Tea, Repeat.

That section is actually quite a lot like the Cederberg even the friction is more like it. The meat of this route is about 5 meters higher where you have to pull through a huge roof, with gear way below you... I was too chicken and backed off. Clinton then got up it. Will have to grow a bigger pair before I jump on this again. Sure Hector will be posting a couple of the pics of Clinton pulling through the roof.. Pretty wild climbing, there is a easier variation around the corner from the roof, probably about 18/19. So then you can climb this brilliant bit and skip the roof. Well worth it. The start of this pitch shares the stance of Red Column. So you can climb the first pitch of Red Column and then finish up this. The bottom pitch of this is wild climbing, really thinky and not entirely obvious....

You can climb all year. In winter the water gets a little cold, but the friction is a little better. In summer you might want to bring a tent. I think the best time is when it suits you best.

Lovely shot Gustav, lighting is ace.

Is there any plans for a photo book of climbing in SA, like Simon Carter's Australian one?

http://www.onsight.com.au/publications/

or Jim Thornburg's?

http://www.jimthornburg.com/book.html

I think there is a market for it.

It's an Edelrid prototype. One particular nice feature about this model is that there are tie in points on the front and the back.
