Climbing in Spain

Post by uGo » Tue May 03, 2011 5:35 pm

So I am heading up to Europe for a conference early June and then traveling from Portugal to Belgium on a slow go. I was very keen on spending at least one day climbing somewhere in Spain, but seeing that I only climb sissie stuff, it needs to be near other amazing things to see. I am thus looking for some advice on where to go.

I found El Chorro and the Camino Del Ray "walkway" ( immidiately cought my fancy. There is also some easy stuff to climb, assuming I can find someone to climb them with me. Otherwise there Cordoba seems like a nice place to be, although there is a lot less climbing.

I wanted to leave the Barcelona part of the trip to rather explore the city and not climb, but this is all very flexible.

Any and all advice is appreciated! I know it is not the best time of the year to go climbing there, but ah well, Boven gets pretty toasty and that is fine! And if anybody is up there at the same time, give a shout.

El Chorro and the Camino Del Ray walk are amazing! I would highly suggest it. Barcelona is a fabulous city and I think world class Suirana is near there. I am a boulderer and hear that Albarracin is worth hitting up, though I have yet to go (I somehow always go to Font instead). I have a couple dear friends who are avid climbers who live in Spain and a couple other friends that go a couple times per year. Happy to put you in touch if you like. Feel free to PM me your personal email and I will make the intro.
