Access issues in Montagu ?

Postby Gregdegidts » Fri Sep 10, 2010 2:17 pm

Hi There
Planning a trip to the Cape in Dec. Can anyone tell me if there are any access issues I need to be aware of in Montagu ? I remember hearing something about Bosch and Ramset crags at some point but not sure if this was ever sorted out ? Any others ?
Cheers
Greg

Hi Greg,

Yes, the entire Bosch Kloof area / crags are currently closed.

Check out:
http://www.climb.co.za/2010/03/montagu- ... of-closed/
&
viewtopic.php?p=27985#p27985

Then go check out the new B&B crag - http://www.climb.co.za/2010/07/the-bold ... -monatagu/

Side note:  Please do not drive into Legoland (i.e. Park outside the gate)

B&B def worth a visit and don't give the closure issue much thought, there is SO much to explore! We had one of our most memorable days out in Oorlogs (think that's how you spell it) Kloof! What an AMAZING set of rock! It is on private prop, so call ahead first out of courtesy. Very cool owners tho! These details are all in the Tony's "Western Cape ....something..." guide book. If you do not have it, I would be happy to send you what ever info you need.
Cheers.

Checked out the new crag looks good thanks. :thumleft:

Justin you have any idea if the Old Forest Crags near Plett are still open. Saw them in the Western Cape Guide and we are going to be in that area a few days too.

Thanks Brad I do have the Western Cape Guide. And Yeah there is plenty. Doing a longish road trip Rocklands (Ever Climbed Sandrif Crag ? if so your opinion ?) then off to CT then Montagu , Plett and ending Oudtshoorn (hopefully strong enough by then to do some decent stuff there)
Can't wait gonna be awesome ...

The B&B crag is great :thumleft:
Besides the very steep walk up and uneven base

RE: Plett
Access appears to be 'sticky' check out the Graaff-Reinet / Plett Climbing thread and best get hold of Nic (let me know if you are not able to reach him).

Hi Greg,

Sandrif if flippin amazing imho!! Wow wow pedal is a must do. great sustained, long beautiful climbing! The camping/ chalets there are also great. This area's obviously renowned for it's incredible trad (Wolfberg etc), but if you aint got no rack then Truitjies Kraal is also a must do and only several min from Sandrif! Nice little breakfast/ lunch shop close by too! Gent there (forget his name) is very helpful and would steer you in the right direction should you need any.
Enjoy. :thumright

Hey Brad,
I am off to sandrift this weekend. I see that a 60m rope is necessary. I only have a 50m, will I come right on some of the routes.
Thanks

The routes to the left are shorter, but less awesome. I can't remember how close we got to the end of the rope when we climbed the longer routes, but you can always top-out I guess.

Does anyone know if that bolt that pulled out on Lip Service has been replaced? That was probably the best sport route I've ever climbed.
