Boven April/May

Post by felixthelion » Fri Feb 12, 2010 11:33 am

I'm hoping to visit Waterval Boven for 4-6 weeks in April/May this year. I will be coming on my own and will be in desperate need of partners. Is it easy to meet other climbers there? I will have rope, draws, harness etc.

Give me a shout if you are planning to be in Boven at a similar time or have any tips. I'm from the UK and havent done any climbing in SA before so would appreciate any advice.

You should not have trouble finding folks to climb with at Boven in April/May, at least on most days. Check out the section for Boven in the "Routes" section of ClimbZA for general info.

During the week you're likely to find international climbers at the Tranquilitas campground or at Roc n' Rope's climbers' lodge. On the weekends, there should be plenty of local and some international climbers at each.

As an international climber myself (though one who's here somewhat long-term), I've found South African climbers to be quite open and friendly so long as you're willing to introduce yourself.

Some of my mates and I will be in Boven for a couple days sometime in April. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for getting back to me Ed and Linda.

Well i will be arriving in Joburg 31/03. I am going to be based in Middelburg and climbing at Boven as much as possible (wednesdays and weekends) - it depends what days i have off in the week.

Definitely let me know if your heading over there, i can get time off at short notice and am always up for a climb.
