EN versus CE ratings

Post by brolloks » Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:59 am

Is there a difference between the two?
Because to, my shock, I saw my 'well known' harness has no CE rating on, but just an EN rating.

So my question is: How important is the CE rating on weight bearing gear? A must, or can other safety ratings do the job too? If so, which ratings are safe/good, and which are not?

I don't wanna die just yet! Help!

Oja, 8a sent me a message too, but it wasn't offensive... :D

The EN is a subset of CE it is the european standard for testing certain items for harnesses it is 12277 so your harness that is CE certified should say EN 12277 Type \"C\" on it. This is the actual safety test. It should however also have the CE followed by a set of numbers (the number corresponds to the Lab that did the actual testing) but this might have been on the packaging or a non permanent label.
