MCSA Supertramp Award 2008

Postby Gogabees » Thu Jul 26, 2007 6:34 pm

Hi all,

As some of you might know or not know The Mountain Club of South Africa sponsors young climber R12000 every year (thanks to some unknown Sponsor) . My brother and I won it this year to go to Turkey, Georgia and Armenia to go and climb there (which was excelent!!)

I would like to try to get it again next year, but as my crazy brother is now to old (24 being the oldest to qualify) can come with. So I am looking for some one to go with and maybe climb some thing in China (looking at round about 6000m) or I also maybe want to travel the whole of the Himalaya chain from West to east. Starting at the Kyber pass ending in China. Some many Ideas

So who is up for an Adventure (Almost paid by the Mountain club) ?

It seems they don;t make them like they used too.

I still feel 16 - does that count?

They say that you are only as old as the woman you feel  So I don't see why not!

But Petro at MCSA PTA might have a problem with that :D

Has any one got any ideas where is a good place to go (expedition) wise?

Please don't let your "glacier trekking" trip fuel your ego into thinking that you have "BALLS" now... If you want to see what some other young people have been up to recently -

http://www.mountain.uct.ac.za/patagonia/m-intro.htm

A quote from the above site about the ascent of Tres Picos:

"After three hours of night-time crevasse navigation, four hours of mixed rock and ice and five hours and five pitches of rock climbing on insanely unstable rock, they summited Tres. The 22 hour feat was last achieved 42 years ago in an expedition that lost two members and seriously injured another in the process. Two days later Anthony and Ake followed the same route to also summit successfully."

Yes I am, but my life is pretty office-bound right now. Enjoy the freedom while you still can! :D

Good to hear you're going for the hardcore stuff and in remote, unexplored areas - I guess that's what Supertramp is all about. Go for it!
