Postby andwoo » Tue Jan 02, 2007 2:40 pm

Looking for any willing climbing partners for January and a bit into Feb, for some sport climbing at Monteseel, Im 18, climbing up to a 20, but Im still quite new to sport climbing, yet Ive been bouldering for most of the year. Thanks, any info will be appreciated.

I heard there were a few sport routes there, but I'm not entirely sure, it's hard to find much up to date info. Well if anyone is up for climbing at Swinburne or Harrismith, which I think are more for sport climbing, I'd also be grateful.

Have a look at at the route guides there.
As far as I know Monteseel is mainly trad.

I've climbed at Kloof Gorge and Shongweni.
Kloof Gorge has relatively difficlut climbs, The boneyard has a few easier climbs and great routes. (The rock does tend to suffer from water seepage after rains, this is usually confined to the first 1-2m).

Shongweni has some really great climbs of all grades. The red wall being probably the easiest of the lot with some really good long quality 17's, really nice views and surrondings. Shongweni tends to suffer from crime though, speak to the locals and find out the situation, you can also phone a day before and book a guard. This is relatively cheap. Don't let the crime deter you from a brilliant venue. By the way if you climb harder sport routes you can visit the wave cave, you can climb there even in the rain as the ovehangs are so steep.
