Higgovale Quarry - ROCK FALL WARNING

Post by carl palmer » Mon Jul 27, 2009 11:30 am

Hi All,

Just a quick word of cation. I climbed at The Quarry on sat and decided to send Chris (from here on 'the victim') up the climb to the right of the big crack (I've heard it's called Whinning Winnie). Most of you will know it because the anchors at some point got relocated to the floor. Unperturbed by the anchors being on the floor I sent the victim up with a trad rack and instructions to set up a trad anchor at the top. Alas while setting this anchor the victim manged to dislodge a large boulder which rolled onto it's side and somehow did not complete it's fall to the ground. This blocked the victim's way down and led to an interesting afternoon of problem solving!

The boulder is likely to fall at any moment and is easily big enough to be fatal if it falls on you. Please tell people to be careful. Is it a good idea for someone to go and push it off in a controlled manor?
