CityROCK 2007 Bouldering Comp a big success!
We had a great turnout for the 2007 CityROCK Bouldering Comp despite the stellar outdoor weather. After 4 cold fronts and what felt like weeks of rain, August 4th turned out to be a stunning day outside. Yet we managed to lure 65 competitors to climb indoors!
We had 15 youngsters and 50 adults competing this year.
Edvinas Smigelskis (‘Ed’) won the mens open category, with Mathew Bush 2nd, and Marijus Smigelskis 3rd.
Lynn Kerr came 1st amongst the women, Vanessa Lane 2nd, Susana Clusella Trullas 3rd.
Mathew also won the dyno problem. Marijus walked off with a bottle of whisky for winning the entertaining jugging contest (i.e. no feet!) through our lead arch.
The undisputed crowd favourite was the tricky ‘hanging grips’ section – here Emil Esterhuizen showed off that training on our campus board with a weight belt does pay off.
Almost everyone walked off with a prize this year. Many thanks to the generous prizes from Mad Rock, Grippy Chunky Chalk, Evolv, Orca Industries, Mountain Mail Order/Five Ten, Vice, Gecko Grips, La Sportiva, SA Mountain Magazine, Pick and Pay, De Bos and De Pakhuis.
