Yellowwood Action

Post by SNORT » Sun Nov 11, 2018 1:15 pm

Friday was a warm day but 3 parties climbed 3 routes at YW.

Kai Fitchen and Nick Van Doesen climbed Terrific Time with ease. Teodor Iliev and Brent Russel climbed Air Time with a lot less ease. And Andy Court accompanied me on Great White Shark. Andy flashed the 23 pitch and also then the "25" pitch which we felt was a similar grade to the first 23 pitch.

GWS starts with a chossy pitch and then there is good climbing to the Halfway ledge. From there it is mostly a choss fest. Nevertheless, a typical "big day" outing at YW.

What a cool bunch of young guys having fun and styling up trad routes at YW. A privilege for me to be in their company. Thanks to you all.

Awesome stuff - good job on the onsights guys (too scared to let go!!? :P

Having been fortunate to go up to YW with Snort on one occasion:
Snort you've done an incredible job developing the place, in particular your Snotter Camp makes all the difference.
- Cutting the walk-in time by 1 hour
- Water collection
- Gear + supplies (especially useful during rescues)
- Gas / stove = tea
- Abseil points (safer, faster, better)
- New routes

And what of the bolts on Great White Shark? Did you chop them?

Hell no. That's hard work and it was hard enough. Those bolts don't really matter as the route won't be climbed much. Other thing is that in 30 years or so they will rust away and no one will replace them as their is good gear.

Perfect weather for YW tomorrow. Me and my NBF Nic are going up tomorrow. Better safer if there are other parties. Leaving my place at 5am.
