Table Mountain new route - Passage to India

Post by Hilton » Fri Dec 23, 2016 6:19 pm

A new route on Venster Buttress (Lower Buttresses).

This really fun route is a couple of metres left of Bombay Duck and along with Delhi Belly (a few metres to the right of Bombay Duck) offers some great challenging onsighting.

Start on top of the large flat boulder 7m left of Bombay Duck. Head up a steep white wall to intersect India Giver to stance. Continue straight up through bulges and overlaps to stance on a ledge below a steep red-brown wall. Head up the red-brown wall for some thin and delicate climbing to intersect the big ledge at the start of the Bombay traverse, step up and do a few moves right (above the Bombay traverse) then go straight up through bulges and small roofs until at the level of the big triangular roof that goes out left. Rail airily to the left on the lip of the triangular roof to the very prow, and then up a few metres to stance. Go up right to the Bombay abseil station. Pitches go at 23, 16, 23 (or thereabouts)

First Ascent: Karl Hayden and Hilton Davies, 4 November 2016

Route in blue line. Photo scaled from Tony Lourens' route book Cape Select, which is highly recommended!
