Huge favour needed!

Postby Primo661 » Tue Nov 30, 2010 1:30 pm

Hi guys,

I'm a new climber and student at UKZN and I'm looking at getting into some sport climbing during the December Vac. I know this is asking for alot but do any of you guys that have been climbing a while possibly have some old quickdraws that have been replaced by new shiny ones and you don't use anymore that I can take off you for a reasonable price? I don't mind if they have seen their fair share of use but as long as they are still in safe climbing condition. I only need them as a temporary solution to start sport climbing during the holidays before I can afford new ones once the semester starts next year.

Thanks,
Andrew

if you only starting to sport climb i suggest asking to tag along with some experienced climbers (just use the gear they bring ;) ) as beginners tend to make dangerous mistake in the beginning that need to watchful eye of the more experienced (tieing off at the top to fetch draws for example and belaying a lead climber)
you will catch some of us during the week at the rock at gateway on Tues and Thurs, come round and we will do some lead climbing

Thanks alot Clinton! I've lead a quite a bit on man made walls and I know how to tie off at the top and clean a wall but ofcourse, I have no experience outdoors and I'm sure I still have alot to learn. I just assumed it was the same as leading and cleaning a normal wall.

What's the drill at gateway? Is there a club structure or do you have to pay the full amount every time?
