Wanted: Ice/Winter Mountain gear

Postby AndrewSport » Thu Jul 17, 2014 12:11 pm

Hi there.
I have been presented with a brilliant opportunity to share costs for a winter/ice/mountain guide course in Switzerland.
That will entail stuff like traversing ice and snow, making shelters, fall arresting, steep grounds, injuries, extreme weather, etc.
But being a fair weather South African sports climber, I have absolutely none of the required equipment. (except my sports climbing gear of course)
And buying it new (to perhaps never use it again) would kill the sensibility of this opportunity.
So in short, does anyone have any extreme weather and ice stuff that they want to get rid of at decent prices?
I am looking for absolutely everything from clothing (Size Med with 34 pants), to bivey, crampons, boots, ice axe, etc.

Thanks
(I am based in Pretoria but will take a drive for a bargain...or pay postage, etc)

I've got a pair of crampons for you. R500 + postage for some Charlet Moser crampons for fully rigid boots. They have antiballing plates too.
Happy climbing
Nic

My "Normal" shoe size is 9. Does the Alpine boots need to be upsized?

Antiballing plates? Let me check that out and get back to you Nic. (thanks)

Antiballing plates are flexible plastic plates attached to the bottom of the crampon that prevent snow from building up underneath the crampon and preventing the crampon points from reaching the snow.
Happy climbing
Nic
