Jaco. Dude your parcel is MOST LIKELY already in SA and have been long ago.
My parcel took 7 days from placing the order to entering SA.... but then it's in SA... and the SA post office will only know where it is once it's been scanned here. Which can take months! I've had parcels stuck in Joburg for up to 4 months!

The worst is when you speak to people they tell you "Thousands of parcels enter the country every day" Like it's an excuse for not doing their job.
Every country receives thousands of parcels each day! They manage to process it though... sigh...

I've had parcels from trekkin stuck at the post office for 4 months.

If you suspect you parcel have been nabbed - you can apply for "lost in post" refund at most sites
I would say just wait it out! I once applied for a lost in post refund after waiting 3 months, and then weeks later received a mail that my parcel has arrived at Post Office! Luckily the application was not processed yet and I had to cancel.

Enjoy the waiting game!

For international parcels I've had good success using this website: http://sms.postoffice.co.za/TrackingPar ... Trace.aspx
Use your international tracking number and when it says "First notification sent to customer" then you go to your nearest post office(s) and tell them the parcel is definitely there and they have to go look in the back.

Thanks for the reminder. You wont believe, but I still haven't received my Ice Axe or pitons. Its now been ore than 4 months, so I made peace that it is list. Trekkin is pretty dodgy with their response. The same thing happened to my friend Mike yesterday over eBay. I had a look at the Raven's price at Mountainmailorder and its really not badly priced. To others considering to buy an axe online, it seems the risk in SA is just too high. Maybe they are stealing the stuff to use as weapons. With my MSCA discount, I will rather opt for Mountain Mail order next time a buy a classic ice axe.

The delay is not the sellers fault. The issue is SA customs. They have a massive back log. I'm currently waiting for about 10 international packages. Some from Europe, some from Asia. Most of them at least 2 months behind schedule.

Wow, we couldn't have written a better advertisement for MMO if we tried.

We at MMO and CityROCK try very hard to remain competitive with our international online counterparts, TrekInn being one of them. Yes, it's now a world-wide web.

FYI, Mountain Mail Order has been in business for 24 years. David Davies started delivering climbing and hiking goods via the Post Office long before the Internet became what it is today, probably before the founders of TrekInn were even born. Hence the name 'Mail Order'.

We have ordered from TrekInn a few times, most of the time they actually work, especially if you choose a private courier company like DHL, NOT the SA Post Office. But then shipping becomes exorbitant, actually defeating the purpose of the money-saving exercise.

When they do work (or deliver) via a reputed company like DHL, you can be sure to end up paying 15% VAT and any applicable duty on some items. (clothing, ropes, shoes attract duties of up to 40%). Climbing hardware is zero. If you use the SA Post Office, then the VAT and duty sometimes falls'through the cracks, but then you also take the risk of the goods never arriving, or taking 4 months.

If you do find an item on that world-wide-web that's truly cheaper than MMO (with duty and VAT), or looking for an item we don't stock, please do contact us and we shall see what we can do.
