Request regarding Flashed draw biners
Request regarding Flashed draw biners
Dagse
I would like to ask the manufacturers/importers of the Flashed draws if they would consider selling the front (solid) gate individually? I would like to purchase a whole bunch of those if the price is right.
They reason: The biners I use on my trad rack are mostly the kind that snag when removing thin slings from them. Even though the flashed biner is a straight gate, I believe it would still work much better than the neutrino type biners.
I believe the cheapest alternative is the Positron bent biner at around R160 per biner. The Flashed draws sell for R210 each.
Any other ideas?

A recipe about how to choose components [of your rack/rig] that loosely comes from MTB-ing (I think) goes like this:
1) Lightweight
2) Strong/sexy/user friendly
3) Cheap
Now you can only pick two!

Re: Request regarding Flashed draw biners
Dirk, we import the Flashed Draws. Complete sets only.
We sometimes use the bent gate in Cape Town on our walls for our lead draws. (maillon on the hanger, dog bone, wire gate for rope).
Maybe we can find a few. Or we can ask and bring in a few with our next shipment, but that will be months....
Alternatively:
We have the DMM Phantom in stock. Similar to the BD Hoodwire, but better and R15 cheaper.

No... you agree with me???????Old Smelly wrote:Nic has proposed the best solution - hoodwire Oz's - can't do much better!clean nose and great biner!
Shock and horror.
I must immediately adopt a contrarian position

The hoodwire is R215 and has a non-snaggy nose which the DMM ones don't. I'd happily pay R15 for that.
The Petzl Ange (which I have and quite like) is R200 too
Happy climbing

I saw Wild Country Oxygen keylock carabiners in City Rock Jhb for R115 today. It's not on the webstore.

CR in Jhb has been having a 20% off first birthday sale. I'm not sure how long for but that maybe why especially cheap. The sale does not apply to the CT store or MMO. Peter

Climbing stuff not part of the 20% off. Was there today.
Re: Request regarding Flashed draw biners
Thanks for the input everyone
Thank you Robert. I would like to buy some of those straight gates if you have some lying around.
I am looking to purchase about 20 biners for use with my slings. I use two biners on each sling to make things easier when placing nuts/hexes.
If I decide to buy the Flashed draws, I will have to swop the wiregate biner with a biner with a keylock nose from some of my sport draws (of which I only have 7). I would rather sukkel clipping a draw on a sport route, than having to deal with the small dyneema slings and wiregates on a trad route.
The price of the Flashed draw is R215 on MMO. Total = 13 x R215 = R2795 with an extra 13 half draws
The Petzl spirit bent gate is R171. Total = 13 x R171 = R2223 with 7 less complete draws
The BD positron bent gate is R175. Total = 13 * R175 = R2275 with 7 less complete draws
But if one could buy the Flashed biners seperately at around R120, that would go a long way further
