Bolting Section of the MCSA JHB Section – 2005 Feedback

The year 2005 was a busy year with the focus on fixing up old sport climbs with rusted and sub standard bolts. About 12 different teams of climbers together rebolted 26 climbs and opened 35 climbs. A lot of climbs had their top chains replaced.

These climbs were spread over a wide range of approved sport crags, but the grades of the climbs opened and rebolted were more on the higher grade side. There was however some easier climbs opened. A number of climbers were trained in bolting skills by teaming them up with experienced bolters with attention to important details enforced.

The plan for this year is to have 3 rebolting meets, continue with the rebolting of many of the climbs with old bolts. We also propose to open lots more climbs with more emphasis on climbs in the grade range of 16 to 20. We also plan to identify and develop one new sport area near JHB.

In addition: you don't have to be a member and it does count as meet for JHB section of MCSA.
