Bouldering in Bedfordview

Postby Chalk » Fri May 04, 2007 10:02 am

I was driving down Kloof Road when I spotted some excellent opportunities lurking up on a ridge on the east end of Kloof…. Has anybody explored this area. The west end has a palisade fence and a gate, but the east end has no fence – I’m thinking urban green belt area.

It sounds like the place i looked at about 8 years ago (before the fence
) and found nothing except one very futuristic boulder... But i guess it is now the future, so maybe possible?

I have been there a couple of times, you can access the area on the corner of townsent and kloof but there is no parking or if you dont mind walking the is a plce called lovers lane( AG de wit Drive) where you can park your car I would not recommend that you go alone as I have on a previos walk in the area came across a rotten human body, but dont let that put you off there is a couple of good places that you can explore some pretty bolder spots more towards easgate, at one of the places there is a huge very big boulder so big that there is an type of a opening big enough for some one to sleep in so be aware of people sleeping there as I have also found some blankets and clothing there.

yup have to agree with russ, but at the same time we didn't find anything nearly big as the boulder Wynand described, so maybe we looked in the wrong place?

don't let a rotting human body put you off ....

holy whack! not many things would put me off an area; but i recon that would probably be right up there!

I Have seen the boulders that Wynand Is talking of. it all depends where you park your car. it is a bit deeper in the area more towards the water tower in actaul fact is is past it about 50m left from the tower and roughly half way in towards Bedfordview it is easier to spot if you are lower towards the houses. The boulder is good for practise it is not great but if you have some time to kill then why not. I have also noted the blankets and some form of an fireplace that proves there is someone living there. The locals living there warned us of mugings so take care.
