ARF Glue-in course

Postby Xenomorph » Mon Sep 17, 2012 3:33 pm

ARF has been in discussion with City Rock re the future of meets at some of the more popular easier crags
We should be having a glue-in course soon. City Rock has kindly make their venue available.
The glue-in course will be run by Upat and is free, it should take no longer than half hour- If you pass (it is not that difficult, you just need to pay attention) you will be given certification.
Robert @ City Rock has also promised a free climbing pass to all people that pass.
Having more accredited glue-in personal will speed up the process at future ARF meets so that we can all climb safely.

Please PM me so that I know how many would be keen on attending as I need to liaise with Upat (glue & bolt supplier)

Regards
Cormac

Please note that the glue-in course provides training only on glueing in of bolts. Any form of bolting requires experience and care as if its not done correctly, it can lead to nasty consequences. Accordingly I recommend that people with some technical background [eg engineers, plumbers, fitters, rope access techs] or bolting experience attend this training. An overdose of a sense of responsibility helps also.

OK, we have set a date for Wednesday 10th @ 17h30
Well done for the 23 people that have signed up. We have to cap it at this, so no more people are allowed to apply. As Andy mentioned above we are looking for people with some technical know how and proper climbing experience of a few years. We don't want cowboys bolting our crags. Remember bolting a route if done incorrectly can put a person's life at risk. At ARF we have Quality Assurance documentation for each route that we re-bolt and it is signed off. If you think you are not up to the job, you won't be shamed for saying so,

Cheers

Please note, new date for course has not been set yet. It is not tomorrow as many people have assumed.

Andy spoke to me again re people with technical a back ground- he is concerned that people are going to go rampant with drills around the western cape.

Cheers
