How much do you spend on a weekend

Postby Justin » Wed May 23, 2012 3:12 pm

I'm looking to get an average of what climbers spend when they go away on a trip, so that it can included it in the 're-open Bosch Kloof document' that we are drawing up - we'd really appreciate your input.
You don't need to go into detail - just reply with a figure.
Thanks :thumleft:

Climbers flock to South Africa's "rock farms"

I could easily spend R750 getting to Montagu for a weekend and feeding and "watering" myself. Might be cheaper if I shared costs with someone. I spend MUCH more than that for big gatherings. Hell I fly to Joburg and rent a car (or bum a ride) for the Roc Rally every year.

Also - why not make life easier by having a poll. For an average weekend away climbing you would spend:

R0 - R200
R200-R400
R400-R600
R600-R800
R800-R1000.

Or whatever the resolution you require is.

Maybe you also want to know how ofter weekends away happen? And how many people we usually make a mission with? I guess you can glean the number of visitors from the number of people staying at De Bos...

This topic touches on "selling the idea to a weekend away to myself" in which i choose not to include food, as I have to eat anyway. If I'm really cheap I drive up on Saturday morning, meaning one night of accomodation. in reality though its about R600 ( R80 camping, R200 Petrol, and about R300 food)

a more scary thought is how much is a send worth: R600X?weekends= send

R250-R800. Largely affected by fuel usage (people sharing costs) and whether you're eating 2-minute noodles or steak.

Thanks Justin :-)

It definitely depends how far you travel for the weekend but I would say on average R750 as fuel is now roughly R400 to Cederberg and back in my old Tazz and camping and food are quite cheap. R1,000.00 would be a safer cost to go with if looking for a ballpark figure.

Thanks again.

R500 to Montagu or cederberg, sharing petrol 3 ways, including food and camping, excluding lap dances

It's difficult as I also usually have a belay bitch share fuel and ignore food cause I was gonna eat anyway. However, in terms of potential revenue to a town/destination, whether I include it in my considerations for cost of a weekend is irrelevant. Cash and swipes in Montagu over a weekend can go up to filling my diesel guzzler R500, accom R100, wood/groceries/water/take aways etc R600. If I count the fines outside the tunnel, in Robertson and outside Ashton, add another R600.

I would also pay entrance to get access to Boschkloof and have lunch and a beer there if they can save a trip back into town.

PS: I voted R500 -R1000, but in retrospect, you can move my vote to the group higher than that. Times that by on avg 2 trips a month.
