Lead assistance needed for beginners Next week in Cape Town

Post by samlee353 » Wed Apr 05, 2006 1:29 pm

Hi there

A few friends and I would love to go climbing next week in Cape Town - anytime - to Montague, Silvermine, Kleinmond, Paar or Cederberg -
We need someone to help set up routes...we're not quite confident enough to lead unsupervised yet -

We offer in return a free ride there and back and lots of beer!

Thank you,

Hey guys!
If you can't find anyone, why not go to a place like Peers Cave/Legoland/Silvermine Lower where you are sure to find more experienced climbers - just to keep an eye on you. And so you can ask for a double check/advice.
The second time I ever climbed was leading a grade 16 at Peers Cave without supervision. Just read up a lot and make sure you know what to do and how to do it (how to use your draws correctly, what to do at the anchors, etc). You sound like you've got all the gear etc, so go give it a shot on your own! There's no excuse not to go. You'll have to start taking the lead somewhere. Do 14/15's just to get your confidence up. One plus about PeersCave is that the routes are very short, so at least the height is not that intimidating.
The bottom line is to always make sure you're safe. Use common sense. If you're unsure of anything, ask others around you. Just always make sure you're safe.
