What's up with the 2 cent coins glued on various points on Frasiers Variation on Table Mountain?

Apparently someone at some stage imagined that this was a good way to mark where the routes went, go figure!?

Hmm, you know what was a good idea. On some of the older routes at Table Mountian and Muizenberg they pasted on little metal tags that have the names of the climb punched into them. Now some might argue that this is defacing the rock, but it's out of the way and you really have to look for them to find them. No more searching for the right cairns or going up the wrong route.

They still paint the names and grades at the start of routes at some crags in Europe, They used this system for a while at Monteseel in Natal but then people decided to be all PC and eco friendly. Of course nowadays, not satisfied with mere paint at the bottom or two cent pieces, we mark routes with a nice clear line of machine bolts!!!
