It looks good for sure. Setting a new benchmark in climbing videography I'd say. Be great to see the finished film.

i got it already.quite a let down.its more about the story of a trad climber(ceder) trying to understand what bouldering truely is.if you amped to see lots of hard sends in rocklands its the wrong dvd for you.there is more bouldering in the extras than in the entire movie.i suppose people will have there own opinions though so will leave it at that.

The 'original Rocklands' video (that was previewed at the Labia) never got released. Not sure of the reasons.

I gotta agree the movie was disappointing. While his style of movie making is excellent with great landscape shots and aerial fly overs, etc. there was minimal actual climbing!! Too much blabbing about their motivations and deep thoughts, this movie needed a lot more bouldering.
Could have been good...

there is another one being released from our studios also hectic climbs, weird angles interviews with climbers... so far we've got good international interest, mainly from america so i guess the americans are more into these kind of dvds?

Rocklands movies

Postby rocklooney » Sat Feb 10, 2007 11:04 am

As far as bouldering movies go, I have to say that Hein de Vos's film \"Rocklands\" sets the benchmark in my book. It is a truly professionally made film with a fantastic soundtrack. See it. It's a long way above the rest.

Saw the movie, thought it was pretty good. Enjoyed the angle from a trad climbers perspective, was fresh (if a little cheesy). At least it was not another bouldering movie with tons of hard problems with little or no story line. In my opinion the best movie since \"The Real Thing\". Anyone seem \"Memento\"? :)

I could not finish the trailer! Must be a joke Robert, or perhaps it is all in the eye of the beholder of the latest sony digicam?

How well was the festival attended?

What about a climbing movie festival in Jhb, or even better - in Waterval Boven!

'Memento' is definitely VERY well made! The cinematography is amazing and probably the best I've seen in a climbing movie thus far.
But as they go I'd have to say 'Rocklands' is still on top over all in terms of sweaty palms, if you know what I mean?! Maybe it's because you can relate to the place or, more likely, the climbing is just so darm RADICAL!

Was in City Rock the other day and they have the 'Rocklands' dvd on sale at last!!!! HOOORAY! The original one with Fred et al directed by Hein De Vos. I think in future years we will look back on this movie as a groundbreaking production with its innovative use of advanced camera angles and arty credibility.

Well done to City Rock for tracking it down and bringing to their shop floor and congratulations again to Hein and all involved in the production of this flik, may it sell huge!! (as it so richly deserves to do).

For all the people not living in CT, the DVD is also for sale from Mountain Mail Order under the literature category.

I saw the DVD at Boven (on Hein's laptop) about a year ago, must say that it is awesome!!

Not sure if the dvd is cleared for international distribution yet, phoned Hein the other day about this but havent heard back yet. Maybe e-mail MMO or City Rock to enquire?
