Shoe repair system - need volunteers

Hi all

I have developed a 2 part urethane rubber repair system which is extremely tough and abrasion resistant. I have repaired a friends climbing shoes (although he only climbs once or twice a year these days so feedback is still pending) and I think with a couple of tweeks it will work well.

Are there any regular climbers with shoes that need attention willing to give this a try? Initially I will repair the shoes - FOR FREE, once the formula is finalised it will be sold as a DIY kit (approx R100 for 2 applications this should be enough to fix all but the most worn out shoes twice).

I am based in Fish Hoek but could collect or meet in the middle (depending on location).

I am also interested to hear views/opinions on whether this is something you would use (or not) and why. Ideas for other areas of use are also welcome :thumright

TIA
Joe

Exactly what does your repair system do?

Reglue flappers? Or replace missing rubber?

Hmmmmmm

Seems interesting. I wonder whether the urethane will have the same grip as the original rubber. And whether the transition area will have sufficient adhesion. Would not mind signing up as a test bunny, but sadly I'm up in the Free State . We climb at least 2 times a week and I have a geriatric pair of La Sportiva's with split Toes. If you don't get any more convenient volunteers, give me a shout.

Other area of use might be reinforcing backpacks in high wear areas before they wear through.

Good questions Jano.
I can make the product the same hardness as the climbing shoe rubber but whether grip will be the same is unknown and essentially why I'm here.

Based on experience the bond strength between my product and the sole is unlikely to be an issue.

Also good idea about reinforcing areas on backpacks, im sure you could also repair holes if necessary.

With the response (or rather lack of) so far, your shoes may be the only option. If you can get them to me ill ship them back to the PO in Bloem. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Any CT okes interested?

I've got a box of old shoes that you can fix up if you like. Once you're done they can be donated to Dream Higher and they can give you feedback...

Hi Joe

I should have a pair of shoes with some damage that you can try them out.

I am often in Fish Hoek, visiting my parents. So can drop them off with you.

Only issue is that I have being really sick for 8 months now, so going to try start climbing again but the testing might depend on my health.

I think it is a really cool idea!

Cheers
Grant

Hi Nick, thanks for the offer. If you have some way to collate feedback then this may be an option for a couple of pairs.
Cheers
