First time in SA

Postby jjw » Tue Jul 19, 2005 1:45 pm

I am coming to SA for the first time (with my wife) and we would like to do some sport climbing ay Waterval Boven. I can get up a French 6b on a good day and the missus is a novice. Would you be kind enough to recommend a good sector for this level? We will have a car. Could you also confirm the malaria situation for the area as I have found different opinions on the web. If you want to know, ask a climber!

Any other good advice or tips would be very welcome, I'll buy you a beer or 6 if I get to meet you out there....

dank u wel/thanks

Jon Wilkinson-Lockyer

Ps I am not upper class with the double name-its a long story!

Hi there

I come from that region- dont worry about malaria at Boven. Maybe take medication if you want to visit a game reserve in lower lying areas (Kruger National Park, Sabie Sands etc) but the risk is low because it is winter.

What dates are you looking to be there?

Thanks for answering- will be in Jo'burg-from 10th August-not staying escept to hire car and head to Kruger and maybe Botswana, probably be in waterval after 20th August.

I will bring the anti-malarials along anyway!

cant wait! First time in Africa and Waterval looks amazing!

Thanks again.
