Bolts at Uvongo beach

Post by AndrewSport » Wed Jan 10, 2018 12:27 pm

We rebolted the easiest route (first route farthest left) at Uvongo Beach this holiday (Dec 2017) and it is now safe to climb.

We want to thank HILTI for sponsoring the chemicals as well as loaning us a dispenser/gun.
We also want to thank the MCSA KZN section for supplying the actual anchors.
The MCSA also loaned us their drilling machine.

The start move requires a lot of power but after that the route is probably a grade 16.....but the start move makes the overall grade difficult to judge. (But not 19 as per the wiki)
We might go down again later this year and will then re-do the second route (grade 21).
BUT someone else will need to do the other two routes as their grades are way above what i can climb.

Enjoy the route.

p.s. I know it is not a prime climbing destination BUT it is a really, really fun venue. Where else in RSA can you climb of beach sand, on real rock, with the high tide coming right up to you? Will the KZN climbers please have a look to see if they can develop it a bit farther?

White Umfolozi, it's a river beach, but close enough for a Vaalie :-) Depending on conditions, you can skip the first section of some of the climbs when they are buried under sand.
